CITRUS OLFACTORY FAMILY
Citrus perfumes date back to the creation of the first eau de cologne, created by the Italian Giovanni Maria Farina back in 1709. FLORAL OLFACTORY FAMILY
There are different distillation methods to obtain natural essences, but the floral family delayed its birth until the beginning of the 20th century. It was the launch in 1906 of L’Origan, the first perfume that contained in its composition a combination of flowers based on its notes. The research of the time helped to discover and synthesize molecules, which were responsible for the olfactory facets of the extracts of natural essences.
There are several subgroups for this family which are Oriental Floral, Aldehyde Floral, Spicy Floral, Green Floral, White Floral, Watery Floral and Fruity Floral. The latter, often mistakenly called Gourmand.
A simple description for this family would be to imagine a bouquet of natural flowers, smell it and discover that wonderful smell. Well, in the floral olfactory family, something very similar is found.

CHYPRE OLFACTORY FAMILY
The island of Cyprus, for centuries has been the center of commerce for aromatic products from the East.
In 1917, Coty created the fragrance he called Chypre, based on oak moss and jasmine, and an important presence of animal notes. It was the birth of this olfactory family, since many other perfumers created fragrances later, based on the incorporation of flowers and woods, and oak moss predominated. In addition to that basic formulation, fragrances made with a similar accord consisting of bergamot, oakmoss, patchouli, and labdanum are included.

ORIENTAL OLFACTORY FAMILY
The Oriental name encompasses all fragrances that contain significant doses of notes associated with vanilla, sweet-smelling resins, opoponax, tonka bean, amber, or myrrh. In addition to the use of molecules to increase its effect such as vanillin, or Ethyl Vanillin. The birth of this family, was the creation of Jicky, a Guerlain perfume from 1889.
Within this olfactory family, there are several subgroups, such as Oriental Vanilla, Oriental Spicy, Oriental Woody, Oriental Green and Oriental Gustatory.
Many of these perfumes inspire a Victorian era.

FOUGÈRE OLFACTORY FAMILY
This olfactory family is based on the use of the coumarin accord (a synthetic molecule first identified in Tonka bean and Lavender essential oil) with lavender and oak moss. Term born in 1882 with the launch of Fougère Royale by the French house Houbigant.
Fougère, translated from French means Fern, which, although lacking odor, conveys the herbal predisposition of the fragrance.
Many men’s fragrances belong to this olfactory family, which is characterized by its strong herbaceous and woody aroma.

WOODY OLFACTORY FAMILY
Olfactory family that clearly houses all those perfumes that obviously do not include the Fougère accord and in which the wood note is defining of its smell.
As with the Oriental and Floral family, it has several subgroups that are Woody Floral, Woody Bouquet, Woody Spicy, Woody Cyprus and Woody Oriental.
Fragrances that are dominated by woody scents, typically of agarwood, sandalwood and cedar. Patchouli, with its camphor scent, is found in these perfumes.

LEATHER OLFACTORY FAMILY
The Leather family is a relatively new fragrance family that features the aromas of honey, tobacco, wood and wood tar in their middle or base notes and as a scent that alludes to leather. Widely used by Arab perfumery, and spectacular in its compositions.
Fragrances strongly inspired by smoked woods, presence of oak moss, coffee, nuts, soft in general, but with a lot of character.
Rooted in men’s perfumery, it does not prevent the existence of unisex perfumery launches with these scent notes.

GOURMAND OLFACTORY FAMILY
Due to the impossibility of classifying some fragrances in the traditional olfactory families, the Gourmand Olfactory Family was created.
A family that encompasses all those fragrances that provide an edible, sweet smell and that try to emulate traditional sweets.
Advances in formulation and the creation of new molecules, synthetic or organic, have given rise to this new family, which is the delight of many consumers.Due to their sweet character, they are recommended in cold weather.
Olfactory notes that could be included in this new olfactory family are vanilla, chocolate, caramel, liquorice, praline, almonds, etc.
